HSBC HOLDINGS PLC

The issuer has advised of the following amendment to the Director's Shareholding
announcement released on 15 October 1999 at 15:59 under RNS No 1286x.

The shareholdings shown in Section 4 were incorrect.  Additionally, the number
of shares purchased (in Sections 7 and 12) should state 100,000 at a price of
HK$82.45 and not 150,000 at a price of HK$85.92 as previously shown.
