                              SENIOR APPOINTMENTS

The Board of HSBC Holdings plc has approved the appointments of the following
senior executives as Group General Managers with effect from 1 October 2003:

Dave Schoenholz, President and Chief Operating Officer, Household International;

Rod Duke, General Manager Banking Services, HSBC Bank plc;

Russell Picot, Group Chief Accounting Officer, HSBC Holdings plc;

Paul Thurston, Head of Personal Financial Services, Asia-Pacific.
