Halloween is the new Christmas, says International
Greetings, as sales soar
International Greetings plc, the AIM listed greetings
products company, saw sales of Halloween products soar to
over £1 million this year compared with £130,000 in 1999.
Following good results from last year's test marketing of
Halloween costume products through two of its High Street
retail customers, International Greetings signed a European
distribution agreement with CSS Industries Inc., the largest
supplier of Halloween products in the US market.
Nick Fisher, joint Chief Executive, said:
'USD5 billion is spent in the States on Halloween, making it
the largest commercial event in the calendar after
Christmas.
'The increase of UK sales we have seen shows that its
importance is growing rapidly here. This year we have
delivered products to six major High Street retailers who
have sold hundreds of thousands of masks, vampire teeth,
broomsticks and witches capes to their customers. The
feedback we have had is encouraging for next year's
Halloween and we are convinced this market will grow rapidly
in the future.'
