Appointment of new non-executive director
IMI, the international engineering group, today announces the appointment of Birgit Nørgaard as a non-executive director with immediate effect.
Birgit has held a number of senior executive positions in consulting engineering, the most recent being as CEO of Grontmij, Denmark, before which she was COO of Grontmij NV in the Netherlands and previously CEO of The Carl Bro Group A/S, Denmark. Prior to that she held senior management positions with Danisco, having started her career as a consultant with McKinsey & Co. She now serves as non-executive director on a number of boards including the listed companies DSV A/S and Lindab AB as well as being non-executive chairman of a contractor, E. Pihl & Son A.S. and of the engineering company NNE Pharmaplan A/S. Fuller biographical details are set out below.
This appointment follows a comprehensive search process led by the Chairman, Roberto Quarta. The board regards Birgit as an independent director in terms of the UK Corporate Governance Code. Birgit will join the Remuneration and Nominations Committees.

Birgit W. Nørgaard Biography
Birgit W. Nørgaard is Danish and started her career in 1984 as a management consultant at McKinsey & Co. In 1990 she left to join Danisco, a major Danish industrial conglomerate, where she held a variety of senior management positions over a ten year period.
In 2000 Birgit moved to become vice president for Nordic operations and business development for TDC Mobile International. She then moved to join Carl Bro Group in 2001 as an executive director in a broad CFO/COO role and was subsequently promoted to group chief executive in 2003.
Carl Bro Group was acquired by Grontmij NV, the consulting engineering company, in 2006 and Birgit's most recent executive position was as CEO of Grontmij Denmark A/S as well as COO of Grontmij NV in the Netherlands. She left Grontmij in 2010 to develop her non-executive portfolio.
Since 2010 she has served as a non-executive director on a number of boards including the listed companies DSV A/S and Lindab AB as well as being chairman of a general contractor, E. Pihl & Son A.S. and of the engineering company NNE Pharmaplan A/S. Several of her other current and previous non-executive positions relate to the energy sector.
She has a M.Sc. in Economics from the Copenhagen Business School and an MBA from INSEAD in France.
