Informa Group PLC 3 February 2000 RECORD YEAR FOR INFORMA GROUP'S '2000 GSM WORLD CONGRESS' This year's '2000 GSM World Congress', taking place in Cannes between 2nd- 4th February, is set to be the most successful GSM conference ever for its organisers Informa Group plc. Over 5,550 delegates are attending with 270 companies and organisations exhibiting, compared to 4080 and 180 respectively, last year. This confirms GSM World Congress as the premier mobile telecoms event for industry-wide discussion and the meeting of world class GSM experience. Informa Group expect over 14,500 people to be present at the Congress in a year when interest in the mobile telecommunications industry is stronger than ever. Peter Rigby, Chairman of Informa Group plc, commented: 'The industry has seen unprecedented growth over the last year. This, combined with the consolidation currently underway in the industry, has further enhanced the need for industry-wide debate over how the global GSM market will develop. Issues such as the introduction of mobile data services and fixed/mobile substitution (mobile operators capturing voice traffic from fixed networks) have the power to change the industry significantly. 'The outstanding success of 2000 GSM World Congress can be attributed to our determination to ensure that all relevant areas of the industry are showcased appropriately, and by ensuring that the logistics of the Congress are world class'.
