Ingenta plc
Trading update
and
contract wins with Macmillan and Heinemann
Trading update
When ingenta listed its shares on AIM in May this year it
stated that, through becoming a public company and increasing
its cash resources, the company would be primed to take
advantage of the rapidly growing demand for its services.
Since that time the company's growth has continued to
accelerate and the Directors are pleased to report that
trading for the period to September 30 2000 is in line with
expectations.
From a current total of some 60 publisher and society
relationships covering online publishing and e-community
services, notable new business won during the period includes
contracts with Business Intelligence, Nature Publishing Group,
OECD Publishing and Sage Group, one of the world's largest
social sciences journal publishers with over 200 journal
titles, bringing the total number of titles contracted to the
site to over 3,000.
In addition the company announces two further collaborations
today, involving agreements worth over £2 million over three
years. Details of these, both of which involve a combination
of fees and transactional revenues, appear below.
ingenta builds online 'Science Universe' for Macmillan
Macmillan Publishers has selected ingenta to create a series
of encyclopedia-based reference portals for scientists,
researchers, and librarians. The project will be one of the
largest of its kind in the world, offering universal access to
highly valuable reference material covering a range of subject
areas and targeting the information needs of professionals and
students alike.
As part of the contract, ingenta will also host a number of
Macmillan's existing online reference works, including the
world-renowned Grove Dictionaries of Art, Music and Opera.
Ingenta will also provide specially developed Access Control
System (ACS) software for unifying administrative control over
each of its products through Macmillan's existing customer
management systems.
The services will be available on a number of commercial
bases, including site licensing, hourly-based charging and a
'carnet'-style multiple session access. The content will also
be available on a pay-per-view basis. The arrangements
envisage further releases of up to three additional portals
per year for the next five years.
ingenta and Heinemann collaborate on e-learning portals for
secondary school teachers and students
ingenta today announced a partnership with Heinemann
Educational, the UK's leading educational content publisher,
to create e-learning portals for teachers and students in all
UK secondary schools. These portals provide the first online
access to Heinemann's textbook content, which until now has
only been available in print.
These portals will offer in-depth multimedia content on topics
such as science, geography, history and maths as teacher
support for Key Stage 2 and 3.
