over 30 million users across Russia, in multi-million pound deal
• VimpelCom adds Intec DCP (Dynamic Charging Platform) and Inter-mediatE
alongside existing InterconnecT system to support delivery of new services to
fast-growing customer base across Russia
London, June 28 2005: Vimpelcom (NYSE: VIP), a leading provider of telephony and
value added data services in Russia and Kazakhstan, has signed a multi-million
dollar agreement with Intec Telecom Systems for state of the art online and
offline mediation across its mobile network. The deployment, which will
ultimately support one of the world's largest mobile subscriber bases, includes
both Intec's DCP active charging solution and Inter-mediatE multi-service
mediation. Together, these solutions connect the critical data stored in
back-office systems to the network in real time, enabling highly creative
charging and billing opportunities. The capabilities that this deployment will
deliver to Vimpelcom will place them in a highly competitive position and
confirms Intec's position as the clear market leader in the emerging real time
OSS solutions space.
VimpelCom, which operates under the 'Beeline' brand in Russia and 'K-mobile' and
'EXCESS' brands in Kazakhstan, is recognized for introducing two digital
cellular communications standards in Russia. The VimpelCom Group's license
portfolio covers approximately 94% of Russia's population (136 million people),
including the City of Moscow, the Moscow Region and the City of St. Petersburg,
as well as the entire territory of Kazakhstan. As of June 2, 2005, VimpelCom's
total number of subscribers was more than 33,2 million, with 8.35 million
subscribers in the Moscow license area, 23.55 million subscribers in the regions
outside Moscow and 1.3 million subscribers in Kazakhstan.
Vladimir Filippov, CIO of VimpelCom, said, "Intec's combined online and offline
mediation solution was the best technical fit for a complex, high performance
requirement, and we know Intec as a trusted supplier with a substantial
commitment to customer satisfaction."
Intec CEO Kevin Adams said: "Although VimpelCom is an established Intec customer
for our interconnect billing technology, this win was a very competitive
evaluation which focused on the ability of vendors to deliver a complex, high
performance solution for mediation and charging of advanced services. We have
recently won a number of major deals that combine Intec DCP and Inter-mediatE,
and the combination of proven performance and real-time functionality that this
solution offers to carriers introducing advanced services is clearly very
convincing."
