Intec enters Russian market with OSS deal
at mobile leader VimpelCom
May 28th, 2002 - Intec Telecom Systems PLC, a global leader in Operations
Support Systems (OSS) for fixed, mobile and IP/next-generation networks, today
announced the signing of an agreement with VimpelCom, one of the major providers
of wireless telecommunications in Russia, worth over US$1 million. VimpelCom,
the first Russian company to list on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), has
selected Intec's InterconnecT billing solution to allow it to accurately bill
other operators for carrying calls to VimpelCom's fast-growing GSM subscriber
base. VimpelCom's mobile license portfolio covers approximately 70% of Russia's
population (100 million people), including the City of Moscow and the Moscow
Region.
After an extensive evaluation of major OSS vendors, VimpelCom selected Intec's
solution for its performance, service flexibility and in-house configurability.
"Adding Intec's InterconnecT solution to our OSS environment is an integral part
of our continuing strategy to exploit operational efficiencies throughout all
areas of our business," said Jere Calmes, Vice President of Customer Operations
at VimpelCom. "InterconnecT will help us to maximise our cash flow through
effective, inter-operator billing as we continue to build our nationwide
presence."
The number of mobile phone users in Russia is expected to rise from 7 million to
12 million by the end of 2002. Despite the dramatic growth rate, the number
still represents only 10 % of the country's population. This offers VimpelCom
many opportunities for business growth, particularly outside the Moscow area.
Intec has won numerous high-profile customers in Eastern and Central Europe,
including national PTTs Matav (Hungary), Cesky Telecom (Czech Republic), and
TPSA (Poland), plus numerous leading GSM operators including Westel and
RadioMobil.
Commenting on the deal, Intec's CEO Kevin Adams said: "We are extremely pleased
to have entered the growing Russian market with a high-profile, national-level
operator like VimpelCom as our first client. It endorses Intec's status as the
preferred choice for OSS in developing markets with high growth requirements and
new service delivery."
