PURCHASE OF SHARES FOR HOLDING IN TREASURY 

International Biotechnology Trust plc (the 'Company') announces that on 12 February 2009 the Company purchased 75,000 of its own ordinary shares at a price of 124.00 pence per share for holding in treasury. Following this purchase, there remain 70,592,664 shares in issue, 4,990,000 of which are held in treasury.
