IDEAL SHOPPING DIRECT Plc
CHAIRMAN'S AGM STATEMENT
At the Annual General Meeting of Ideal Shopping Direct Plc ("Ideal Shopping
Direct") to be held today at 10.00am, Paul Wright, Chairman and Chief Executive,
will read the following statement:
"Since the announcement of the full year results in March, the current year has
continued to progress in line with Company budgets. I am pleased to report that
first quarter sales for Ideal World, our television shopping business, shows a
100% increase in sales on the first quarter of 2002 figure. Sales growing from
£4 million to £8 million. We have had a very busy first five months since
January having successfully launched two new channels from our premises; Create
and Craft, our own channel with a focus on the rapidly growing art and craft
market which was launched on 18 April and having provided Goldshield Plc with a
turnkey operation to launch its own channel, Goldshield Vitality, in January. We
have also celebrated our third anniversary of broadcasting our leading live
channel, Ideal World, which continues to grow. In anticipation of our continued
rapid growth, we have taken the decision that in order to meet our customer care
targets, to move our in-bound call centre order lines to India. This decision,
previously announced, is currently being implemented and the full customer
benefit, we believe, will be most evident during the second half of this year,
traditionally our busiest period. Whilst there will be significant cost savings,
the full benefit will not be seen until 2004.
"Under the banner of family, friendship and fun, we are continuing to build and
successfully extend our relationship with our direct to home customer base,
particularly since the business has now returned to full operational performance
following the move into our new premises in September last year as a result of
the devastating fire that completely destroyed our entire operational facilities
in March 2001.
"With more than 50% of the 26 million television households in the UK having yet
to convert to multichannel digital television, the TV home shopping market
offers excellent opportunities as a means of accessing retail customers for a
very wide range of products. Ideal Shopping Direct looks forward to increasing
its presence in the very attractive direct to home market sector as we continue
to grow our existing business and develop new and exciting opportunities that we
are seeing emerge."
