Trading statement

Investec to report strong performance for 2005 financial year
Outlook positive across all geographies and key business areas for 2006
Investec is currently finalising its results for the year to 31 March 2005,
which will be released on 19 May 2005.
The group is pleased to report to shareholders that earnings per share (before
exceptional items and goodwill amortisation) for the year ended 31 March 2005 is
likely to be in the range of 135 pence to 143 pence. This compares to the 103.8
pence reported for the year ended 31 March 2004.
Operating fundamentals continue to show positive trends with a strong
performance from all of key business areas and geographies. The group looks
forward to 2006 with confidence.
Note:
The forecast financial information on which this statement is based has not been
reviewed and reported on by the group's auditors. These disclosures are made in
terms of paragraph 3.4 (b)(i) of the JSE Securities Exchange South Africa
Listings Requirements which requires companies to publish a trading statement as
soon as they are satisfied that the results for the period to be reported on
next will differ by at least 20% from the previous corresponding period.
