APPOINTMENT OF FRANCIS CARPENTER, FORMER CEO OF THE EUROPEAN INVESTMENT FUND
IP Group plc (LSE: IPO) ('IP Group' or the 'Company' or 'Group'), the UK's
leading university intellectual property commercialisation company, announces
that it has appointed Francis Carpenter to the Board as a Non-Executive Director
with immediate effect.
Mr Carpenter, aged 65, was Chief Executive Officer of the European Investment
Fund ('EIF'), holding that role for nearly six years until his retirement at the
end of February 2008. The EIF is the European Union's specialised financial
institution providing venture capital, especially high tech, and guarantees for
the creation, growth and development of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in
the European Union and in Accession Countries.
Prior to this, Mr Carpenter was Secretary General of the European Investment
Bank ('EIB'), for six years. Previously he was Director of Credit Risk
Management at the EIB, having held the position of Director of Lending in the
UK, Ireland, North Sea and Portugal. Mr Carpenter joined the EIB in 1975.
A graduate of Wadham College, Oxford, the Institut d'Etudes Politiques, Paris,
and the New School for Social Sciences, New York, Mr Carpenter spent the first
years of his career at Citibank, working in New York, Geneva and Paris in
investment research and portfolio management.
