FORD MOTOR COMPANY STANDARDISE SATELLITE NAVIGATION WITH ITIS TRAFFIC
INFORMATION
ITIS Holdings ('ITIS') announces today that its RDS-TMC Traffic Information
Service will be supplied on all Ford Mondeo Zetec Nav vehicles, a new model
which for the first time features satellite navigation as standard equipment and
is specifically targeted at business users and fleets.
Significantly, this model will be priced at only £375 more than the standard
Ford Mondeo Zetec, representing the first time that the cost of
factory-installed navigation has reached a price level at which it can be
standardised on a main stream model. It also confirms that satellite navigation
systems can no longer be viewed as a luxury car option and therefore underlines
the growth potential of this market. Many business customers cannot specify
options on their car and this can be frustrating especially with a valuable tool
like traffic enhanced satellite navigation. The Ford Mondeo Zetec Nav is aimed
directly at those customers and will remove the need for them to seek
alternative systems in the after market
Stuart Marks, Chief Executive of ITIS Holdings, commented, 'We are excited by
this latest initiative from Ford and the exposure that RDS-TMC will receive as a
result. Factory installed satellite navigation has now reached a pricing level
at which the manufacturer can afford to standardise systems on mainstream
models. ITIS, through its exclusive license to broadcast RDS-TMC, is ideally
placed to take full advantage of the growth of satellite navigation. A key
advantage for us is that RDS-TMC is now recognized by manufacturers and
customers as an essential enhancement to turn by turn navigation.'
Peter Fleet, Ford of Britain, Marketing Director, said, 'The Ford Mondeo Zetec
Nav specifically caters for essential users and key fleet customers who cannot
specify options on their company cars. It also offers an additional proposition
for retail customers recognizing the growing market for satellite navigation
systems.'
