New contract with AA

ITIS Holdings PLC 24 May 2002 24 May 2002 ITIS HOLDINGS AND THE AA ANNOUNCE MAJOR STRATEGIC RELATIONSHIP ITIS Holdings plc (ITIS) and Automobile Association Developments Limited, part of the Automobile Association (the AA) today (Friday 24 May) announce a significant long-term contract and new strategic relationship. Under the terms of the deal, ITIS will be responsible for supplying real time traffic flow information to AA Roadwatch, the traffic and travel division of the AA, from late November 2002. The AA will also jointly market, manage and develop ITIS's successful RDS-TMC service, which is already used by a number of manufacturers including Toyota and BMW. The AA now has more than 12 million members, and has agreed to evaluate opportunities to market NavTrak, ITIS's stolen vehicle tracking system. ITIS will be providing real time traffic flow data to AA Roadwatch collated by a technique known as Floating Vehicle Data (FVD). FVD uses information from selected vehicles operating across the strategic road network, including Eddie Stobart lorries and National Express coaches. This provides both real-time flow information, which can be used to alert drivers on traffic flow and congestion, and historic information, which can be used to predict journey times and select routes. The AA will also be assisting ITIS to enhance its FVD network by providing access to data collected from the AA's fleet of 3,600 patrol vehicles, representing around 140 million location messages a year. FVD will then be combined with the AA's own traffic sources to provide high quality traffic information services for motorists. Roger Wood, AA Managing Director, says: 'Working with ITIS will enable the AA to further build upon its reputation as a leading supplier of traffic information services. 'ITIS has demonstrated that it can deliver high quality traffic information from its Floating Vehicle Data network. The flexibility and scalability of the network will provide the AA with an important new, and continuously improving, source of information. 'This is an exciting development that allows us to further develop services for our customers and to improve the efficiency of our own AA patrol fleet.' The AA has recently equipped all its patrol vehicles with the latest in satellite navigation technology. The deal with ITIS now gives the AA the opportunity to further enhance this with RDS-TMC traffic information. Says Wood: 'We believe that RDS-TMC is the best and most cost effective way of integrating navigation and real time traffic flow information. ITIS and the AA have both led the way on this important area of telematics in the UK. 'With the AA utilising the service 24 hours a day, we are confident that ITIS' RDS-TMC service can be further developed to appeal to even more motorists.' Stuart Marks, ITIS Chief Executive, says: 'This is an important contract for ITIS and is a significant endorsement of both our FVD network and our strategy to focus on relevant delivery channels such as RDS-TMC. 'The AA is the UK's leading motoring organisation and one of the most respected and recognised brands in the UK. This latest agreement together with recent new business wins from BMW and OnStar clearly positions ITIS as a leader in this fast developing market.' ends Contact: AA Press Office on 01256 493029 Stuart Marks - ITIS Chief Executive on 07768 454700 Ginny Pulbrook/Charles Vivian - Citigate Dewe Rogerson on 0207 282 2945 NOTES TO EDITORS The AA is the UK's largest motoring organisation with 12 million members.
