Retirement of Director

Johnson,Matthey PLC 3 April 2002 For immediate release, Wednesday 3rd April 2002 Johnson Matthey Announces Retirement of Director and subsequent Board Changes Johnson Matthey Plc announces that Graham Titcombe will retire as a director of the company on 24th September 2002 after 42 years service, including 12 years as a main board director. Having held a succession of senior management positions with the company in both the UK and overseas, Mr Titcombe was appointed as an Executive Director of Johnson Matthey in November 1990. He was appointed Managing Director, Precious Metals and Catalytic Systems in March 1994 and Managing Director, Precious Metals Division in September 1995. In January 1999 he was appointed Group Managing Director, reflecting his role as the company's senior operational executive director with both Precious Metals Division and Colours & Coatings Division reporting to him. With effect from 1st August 2002, Neil Carson will take over board level responsibility for Precious Metals Division in addition to his current responsibility for Catalysts & Chemicals Division. Also with effect from 1st August 2002, David Morgan will assume board responsibility for Colours & Coatings Division and the company's Central Research activities.
