New Director

The Board of JPMorgan Fleming American Investment Trust plc are pleased to
announce the appointment of Mr James Fox as a non-executive Director with effect
from 22 July 2003.

Mr Fox is experienced both in terms of US investment and the investment trust
industry. He has recently retired from Deutsche Asset Management where he held
the position as Managing Director for Deutsche's Investment Trust business.

In accordance with paragraph 16.4 of the FSA Listing Rules, Mr Fox is currently
