              SHARE BUY BACK AUTHORITY
                          
The  Board  of  The Fleming American Investment
Trust plc  announces that  at  the Annual General
Meeting of the Company held  yesterday, general
authority  was  given for the Company  to  purchase
up  to 9,646,420  its own ordinary shares for
cancellation which represents 14.99% of the shares
in issue as at 27th April 2000.
