THE FLEMING CHINESE INVESTMENT TRUST PLC
Unaudited results - year to 30 September 2000
The Directors have today announced the unaudited final
results for the financial year to 30 September 2000.
The net asset value per share as at 30 September 2000 was
83.6 pence. This compares with 57.3 pence as at 30
September 1999 representing an increase of 46%. The
comparator index which is used by the Company is a
composite index expressed in sterling terms and comprises
40% Hang Seng Index, 40% Taiwan Weighted Index and 20%
BNP Prime Peregrine China Index. This composite index
rose by 21% over the year to 30 September 2000.
The Company's investment policy is to concentrate on
capital growth. Earnings per share have fallen from 0.14
pence in 1999 to -0.17 pence this year. Given the level
of earnings the Directors do not recommend that any
dividend be paid to shareholders for the year ended 30
September 2000. The total return per ordinary share has
shown an increase of 34%, rising from 19.66 pence to
26.36 pence.
