                     JPMORGAN CHINESE INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

                              ISSUE OF SHARES


JPMorgan Chinese Investment Trust plc announces that today, Thursday 20th July
2006, it issued 100,000 ordinary shares to a market participant at 78.0 pence
per share representing 0.14% of the ordinary shares in issue.

It is expected that the new ordinary shares will be admitted to listing on the
Official List of the UK Listing Authority and to trading on the main market of
the London Stock Exchange on Tuesday 25th July 2006.

The number of shares issued under the current authority totals 4,740,000.  A
further 2,159,700 shares are available for issue under the authority granted at
the AGM held on 13th December 2005.

The shares in issue following this notification are 73,737,001.
