THE FLEMING EMERGING MARKETS INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

The Board wishes to announce the appointment of Alan Saunders as a director of
the Company with effect from 2oth May 2002. Alan is currently working as an
independent investment consultant with Allenbridge Group plc. He has had many
years of financial management experience having been Chief Economist at Royal
Dutch Shell and having held senior investment roles in both Lazards and the
Private Banking Division of UBS A.G.


Details requiring disclosure under paragraph 16.4 of the FSA Listing Rules will
be announced within 14 days.


As previously announced, JP Morgan Fleming Asset Management have brought
together their wide range of emerging markets expertise into one Global Emerging
Markets platform. There will be three teams of investment professionals based in
London, Hong Kong and New York. Austin Forey, who has over 14 years of
experience with the firm, will lead the London team and continue to manage
Fleming Emerging Markets' portfolio. Clive Lloyd will no longer be involved as a
fund manager and we are grateful for his contribution over the last 5 years.
