LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT

JPMORGAN EUROPEAN SMALLER COMPANIES TRUST PLC

CHANGE IN DIRECTORATE

The Board of JPMorgan European Smaller Companies Trust plc (the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Marc van Gelder as an independent non-executive Director of the Company with effect from 1st August 2016.

Marc has worked for over 19 years in businesses in Europe and is an experienced non-executive director; currently a Member of the Supervisory Board of GIMV (private equity), listed on NYSE Euronext, Brussels and Chairman of Vastned N.V. (real estate), listed on Euronext, Amsterdam (AMX).

His former roles include CEO of Mediq, a Dutch listed pharmaceutical distributor, which was acquired by Advent in 2013. Prior to this he was CEO of Nasdaq-listed Peapod following its acquisition by Ahold.

Commenting on the appointment Carolan Dobson stated:

'Marc has extensive European business experience and we look forward to the insights and understanding that he can bring to the Company's investments from a European perspective'.

Mr Gelder does not currently hold any shares in the Company.

There is no further information to be disclosed under Listing Rule 9.6.13 R (2) to (6) for Mr van Gelder.
