                   THE FLEMING INDIAN INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

                REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES FOR CANCELLATION


The Fleming Indian Investment Trust plc announces that on 19th October 2001,
in the market they purchased for cancellation 475,000 ordinary shares at
54.625p per share representing 0.6% of the ordinary shares in issue.

The number of shares repurchased to date now totals 14,160,000.

The remaining shares in issue following this repurchase total 78,069,792.
