        THE FLEMING JAPANESE SMALLER COMPANIES INVESTMENT TRUST PLC



Further to the announcement made on 26th July 2002, the Company announces that
the Registrar of Companies has issued the certificate of incorporation on change
of name and therefore the name of the Company has changed to JPMorgan Fleming
Japanese Smaller Companies Investment Trust plc with effect from 29th July 2002.
