Fire incident at Moma Mine
Earlier today, a fire occurred in the trommels section of Wet Concentrator Plant A (WCP A) at the Moma Mine. No injuries were suffered as a result of the incident. The fire was extinguished and damage was contained to the trommels section of the plant. The dredge and spirals section of WCP A were unaffected by the fire.
Mining operations at mining pond A have been suspended and insurers have been advised of the incident. An investigation has commenced into the cause and extent of the fire. Kenmare will conduct this investigation in an efficient and timely manner and will provide further updates as information becomes available.
Mining pond B continues to operate and produce Heavy Mineral Concentrate (HMC). In addition, a stockpile of approximately 96,000 tonnes of Heavy Mineral Concentrate is available for processing by the Mineral Separation Plant (MSP) into final products.
Managing Director, Michael Carvill, stated: "Kenmare regards the health and safety of our employees as its highest priority and, although we are relieved that there have been no injuries, we are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness. Our Operations Director, Jacob Deysel, is currently travelling to Moma. A full investigation is underway into the cause of the incident and to establish the extent of damage to WCP A. In the meantime, production of final product from the MSP will continue as normal, using the large stockpile of HMC and feed from mining pond B."
