Kier Preferred for £97m Sheffield PFI Schools
Kier Group, in partnership with Dexia Public Finance Bank, has been named
preferred bidder to provide four new schools for Sheffield City Council under
the private finance initiative (PFI). The project is valued at £97m.
The construction element of the project, valued at £50m, will be carried out by
Kier Northern and Kier Build and facilities management subsidiary Caxton will
provide the services for the 25-year term.
Chief Executive John Dodds commented: "We are pleased to have been selected
preferred bidder on our third PFI schools project and look forward to working
with Sheffield City Council to provide the new schools as part of the
Government's national education initiative."
Kier has a strong presence in Sheffield; the company, as part of Kier Sheffield
LLP, undertakes the outsourcing of the City Council's buildings repairs and
maintenance for its 60,000 council houses.
