KIER PREFERRED FOR £200M SPORTS AND LEARNING COMMUNITIES CONTRACT
Kier has been announced preferred bidder by Telford & Wrekin Council for a £200m contract to build sports and learning communities across the borough.
Kier will be demolishing existing secondary schools and replacing them with state of the art learning environments that incorporate sporting and community facilities.
Work on the first of these facilities - the Abraham Darby Sports and Learning Community - is due to start in March and is scheduled to be completed in September 2011.
This Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project represents Kier's fourteenth project secured through the Academies Framework, bringing the potential value of work secured to £658m. The £200m project is in addition to our secured and probable construction order books of £2.2bn disclosed in our preliminary results announcement.
Kier Group chief executive John Dodds commented: "Kier is delighted to have been chosen as the Preferred Bidder for Telford BSF, which will help the Council to deliver its strategic objectives for 'Campus Telford & Wrekin'. Kier has worked in partnership with the Council, sponsors, existing schools and its National Framework Architect BDP on this project and developed a highly sustainable design reflecting the scheme's educational vision."
Councillor Stephen Burrell, cabinet member for children and young people, said: "Kier's imaginative and innovative designs, sparkling industry reputation and professional approach makes them the ideal partner for Telford & Wrekin Council to deliver our vision of sports and learning communities across the borough."
