KINGFISHER REPORTS SALES GROWTH OF 12.5%
Kingfisher plc, the European retail Group, today reports that total sales grew
during the third quarter by 12.5 % to a record £2.92 billion. Like-for-like
sales increased by 3.8% for the quarter. In local currency terms, the Group's
total sales were ahead by 15.4%.
For the year to date total sales were up 12.0% (15.6% adjusting for currency)
and like-for-like sales were ahead by 5.6%.
The Group's three sectors all showed increased total sales with a particularly
strong performance in DIY. This performance was boosted by the continued roll
out of B&Q Warehouse along with strong growth from international operations.
Electricals achieved growth of just over 9% boosted by continued strength
from Comet and BUT. General Merchandise grew sales by over 6% with strong
performances by *Superdrug* and the new formats (Big W and Woolworths General
Store) offsetting the slower rate of growth at Woolworths.
Like-for-like sales were ahead by nearly 5% in both DIY and Electricals.
*Darty* in particular performed strongly, delivering like-for-like growth of
over 10%. General Merchandise grew by over 1%, reflecting continued tough
market conditions.
Commenting on the sales figures, Sir Geoffrey Mulcahy, Chief Executive, said:
'Overall, these are encouraging sales figures achieved in a highly competitive
environment.' He added: 'We are now entering a key time and our businesses
are focused on delivering success throughout the Christmas trading period,
which, as ever, will have an important impact on the year's performance.'
