                      Kingfisher plc sells Andre Deutsch

Kingfisher plc today announced that its publishing business The VCI Group has
sold its book publisher Andre Deutsch Limited to Carlton Books, a division of
Carlton Communications Plc.  The purchase price, which is not material to
Kingfisher, is not disclosed.

Commenting on the sale, Richard Green, Chief Executive of the VCI Group, said:
'The sale of Andre Deutsch Limited will allow The VCI Group to focus on its
core audio (Demon Music Group), video (Video Collection International) and
distribution (Disc Distribution) divisions whilst allowing the Andre Deutsch
business to benefit from joining a books operation trading on a worldwide

  contracts for both Granada Media and Manchester United Football Club

*    Andre Deutsch Limited was bought by The VCI Group in 1995.   Its imprints
