                   Kingfisher plc Appoints Finance Director

Kingfisher plc has today announced the appointment of Helen Weir as Finance
Director.  Her appointment as a member of the Kingfisher Board will be
formally confirmed shortly.  Helen replaces Philip Rowley who, following the
announcement of the Group's intention to demerge, has been appointed Deputy
Chief Executive and Finance Director of the new General Merchandise Company.
As previously announced Philip will remain a director of Kingfisher until
completion of the demerger.

Helen joins Kingfisher from B&Q where she has been Finance Director since
August 1997.  She joined B&Q in 1995, having worked for McKinsey & Co since
1990.
