Kingfisher Chairman to retire
Kingfisher today confirms that Chairman Sir John Banham has expressed his wish
to retire later this year.
Sir John, who is 60, joined the Board in October 1995 and became Chairman in
February 1996. He will step down once his successor is in place.
The Board has invited Sir Geoffrey Mulcahy, who is 59, to continue in his role
as Group Chief Executive for a further period of three years.
Sir John Banham said:
'In my five years as Chairman, Geoff Mulcahy and I have worked together to
focus the development of the Group around its core strengths. The separation
of the General Merchandise businesses is shortly to be completed and I have
thought for some time that it would be right for me to announce my decision to
stand down as Chairman this year.
The next phase of the Group's development will carry forward our exciting
plans for further international expansion. I am delighted that Geoff will
continue to direct the Group's progress.'
