Consolidated Financial Results
for the First Quarter ended June 30, 2002
KONAMI CORPORATION announced today its consolidated financial results for the
first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2003 (April 1, 2002 to June
30, 2002) as attached.
As for the CS (Consumer Software) business, World Soccer Winning Eleven 6 for
the PlayStation 2 recorded strong sales with more than one million copies
shipped. Tennis no Oujisama: Genius Boys Academy for the Game Boy Advance and
Hikaru no Go: Heiangensoibunroku for the PlayStation also made favorable sales.
In the U.S., Yu-Gi-Oh! for the Game Boy Color achieved healthy sales. As for the
CP (Character Products) business, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Official Card Game Duel Monsters
series continued to contribute to sales. Especially in the U.S., the card game
series enjoyed popularity with a highly-rated TV animation program featuring Yu-
Gi-Oh!. In addition to card games, the electronic toy DigiQ of the Micro IR
series made solid sales. In terms of candy toys, which are popular for their
exquisite figures, SF Movie Selection: Thunderbird Vol.1 recorded sales of more
than one million packs. As for the AC (Amusement Content) business, the first
'e-Amusement' title Mah-Jong Fight Club and the music simulation game Pop'n
Music posted stable sales. As for the GC (Gaming Content) business, the token-
operated game machines such as GI-Winning Sire, Fortune Orb and Monster Gate II
made solid sales. In terms of our overseas gaming business, with gaming licenses
held in all states of Australia, we had solid sales especially in Queensland,
Victoria and New South Wales. As for the HF (Health and Fitness) business, 11
new directly-operated clubs and 3 new franchised clubs contributed to sales.
As a result, consolidated net sales for the first quarter ended June 30, 2002
totaled Y50,059 million, an increase of 32.7% compared with the first quarter in
the previous year. Consolidated operating income and consolidated net income
increased 76.4% and 20.9% from the corresponding period of the previous year to
Y4,884 million and Y844 million, respectively.
