            Land Securities PLC ('Land Securities' / 'the Group')

                       RETIREMENT OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Land Securities announces today that James Murray will retire from the Board
as an executive director on 30 June 2001.  His intention to retire was first
notified to shareholders in July 2000.

Land Securities' Chairman, Peter Birch, commented:

'We would like to take this opportunity to thank Jim for the invaluable
contribution he has made to the Group throughout his twenty year career with
Land Securities.   His wise counsel and leadership as Finance Director over
the last ten years has been particularly appreciated, especially during the
last year in which the Group has transformed from being a traditional asset
accumulator to an integrated group focused on becoming the preferred provider
of commercial real estate and associated occupational services.  We wish Jim
the very best in the future.'

Land Securities' new Finance Director, Andrew Macfarlane, will join on 1
October 2001.
