Legal & General Group Plc ('Group') has been advised by HSBC Investment Bank
plc that they purchased 24 ordinary shares of 2.5p each in Group at a price of
172.5p per share on 20 June 2000 on behalf of Mrs. B. Asher, the wife of Mr.
B. H. Asher, a non-executive director of Group.  The shares are held in a
single company PEP.
