Andrew Palmer, a director of Legal & General Group Plc ('Group'), has today
exercised 150,000 options at 50.8p and 120,000 options at 45.4p over ordinary
shares of 2.5p each in Group, all of which were granted under the Legal &
General Executive Share Option Scheme (1985).  Mr. Palmer then transferred
135,000 shares to his wife, Mrs. Jane Palmer.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Palmer have today sold 135,000 shares each at a price of
174.5p. The sales were undertaken primarily to meet tax liabilities and to
fund a property purchase.

Following this disposal Mr. Palmer retains a beneficial interest in 214,704
ordinary shares in Group.
