LEGAL & GENERAL AND BARCLAYS EXTEND STRATEGIC ALLIANCE

Legal & General Group Plc today announces that it is currently in discussions
with Barclays PLC with a view to extending the existing relationship between
Woolwich and Legal & General Insurance Limited to the whole of the Barclays
household account.

These discussions are expected to be completed within the next two weeks. A
further announcement will be made at the appropriate time.
