          Market Purchase of Company's Own Shares                             
                             
Notification  is  given  that  pursuant  to  the  authority
granted  at an Extraordinary General Meeting on 18 December
1998  to make market purchases of the Company's own  shares
of 25p, a market purchase of 141,000 ordinary shares of 25p
each  in the capital of the Company was made on Friday,  10
December 1999 at a price of 376p per share.

Following   the   purchase  and  cancellation,   21,224,205
ordinary shares of 25p will be in issue.
