It has been confirmed today that following his appointment as an Executive
Director on 3 March 2003, Vittorio Radice has been granted Executive Options on
4 March 2003 under the rules of the Marks and Spencer Group p.l.c. 2002
Executive Share Option Scheme as follows:

These options are exercisable between 3 and 10 years from the date of grant and
are subject to performance criteria on exercise.

In addition, Vittoria has today purchased 10,000 shares at 291p each, registered
