DEALING BY DIRECTOR

The Trustees of the Marks And Spencer Long Service Scheme yesterday purchased
211 shares at a price of 234p on behalf of Mrs Clara Freeman.

These shares have been purchased as a long service award and will be transferred
into Mrs Freeman's name shortly before the award ceremony for staff celebrating
25 years with the Company, of which another 69 employees have elected to receive
the same number of shares as their long service award.

Mrs Freeman's total holding will be 80,929 shares when the 211 shares have been
transferred into her registered name (Clare Elizabeth Mary Freeman).
