DISCLOSURE OF INTEREST IN VOTING SHARES
Marks and Spencer p.l.c. was notified today that at close of business on 5
September 2001 Barclays PLC, through its subsidiary Barclays Bank PLC, is
interested in 89,571,303 ordinary shares in Marks and Spencer p.l.c. which is
3.12% of the issued share capital of the Company.
