AGM STATEMENT ON CURRENT TRADING
Speaking at the Annual General Meeting today, Mr Christopher Burnett,
Chairman of Marshalls Plc, the specialist Landscape, Concrete and Clay
Products Group, said:
'We have been encouraged by the level of sales in the first four months of
the year in the context of continuing indifferent weather in the first
quarter. In recent weeks, sales have picked up and cumulatively are 4% ahead
of last year's strong trading start.
'Shareholders will be updated on trading for the first half prior to going
into the Close period on Friday, 6 July 2001 but we anticipate there will be
a stronger weighting than usual towards the second half, when margins will
benefit more fully from the improvements we are making and, hopefully, we
experience more normal trading conditions than last year.'
