AGM Statement

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting today, Mr Christopher Burnett, Chairman
of Marshalls the specialist Landscape, Stone and Clay products Group announced
that like for like sales for the first four months of 2000 were ahead of the
same period last year and in line with budget.

The new consumer marketing campaign, promoting our landscape driveway, patio
and garden products began in the first quarter.  Together with the other
projects underway to improve customer service, productivity and efficiency in
all three divisions this should ensure that Marshalls achieves another year of
growth.
