MARSHALLS PLC
Marshalls plc announces that Mr Christopher Burnett will be stepping down as
Chairman at the Company's Annual General Meeting on 10 June 2004. Headhunters
have been appointed to seek a replacement. In the meantime Mr Richard Scholes,
currently the Senior Independent Director, will be appointed Acting Chairman
with effect from the Annual General Meeting. Shareholders will be advised of the
appointment of the new Chairman in due course.
Richard Scholes said:
'On behalf of the Board of Marshalls plc and the Company's shareholders, I would
like to pay tribute to Christopher Burnett's outstanding contribution to the
growth in shareholder value at Marshalls since his appointment as Chairman on 21
November 1997. In the last six years Marshalls has been transformed into a well
invested, market-led business, and is now a leader in most of its chosen fields.
Over this period the Company has achieved compound annual growth rates of 14% in
operating profit and 15% in adjusted earnings per share, and in March 2004
announced another year of record results. Christopher has also developed and
recruited an excellent management team. We wish him well.'
