Martin  Currie  Portfolio  Investment Trust plc, on 5 March  2009,  bought  back
77,500   ordinary  shares  at  a  price  of  78.25p  per  share  for   immediate
cancellation.

Following this purchase 133,707,368 ordinary shares remain in issue.
