Martin  Currie  Portfolio  Investment Trust plc, on 9 March  2009,  bought  back
49,544   ordinary  shares  at  a  price  of  77.50p  per  share  for   immediate
cancellation.

Following this purchase 133,607,824 ordinary shares remain in issue.
