Martin  Currie  Portfolio Investment Trust plc, on 2 January 2009,  bought  back
65,000  ordinary  shares  at  a  price  of  95.5000p  per  share  for  immediate
cancellation.

Following this purchase 134,477,458 ordinary shares remain in issue.
