AGM Trading Update / Change of Chairman
TRADING
At the start of today's AGM of PMI, the digital imaging company focussed on
professional laboratories and end-consumer vending solutions, the Deputy
Chairman, Vernon Sankey, will give the following update on current trading and
prospects:
'In the Preliminary Announcement of 28 June 2004, it was stated that the
Directors remained confident that PMI would make further significant progress in
the current financial year and that, further out, the Directors continued to
believe that the widespread adoption of, and developments in, digital
photography offered huge opportunities to PMI for sustained profitable growth.
The Board expects that overall trading in the half-year to 31 October 2004 will
be in line with both its expectations and the very substantially improved
performance achieved in the first half of last year. Whilst the out-turn for the
second half will depend on the level of minilab sales, the first half has
finished strongly and the Board continues to envisage further significant
progress in the current year and beyond'.
CHAIRMAN
At the AGM, it will be announced that Dan David is standing down as Chairman,
having fulfilled the role for the past 12 years. His retirement from the
position will take effect from 1 February 2005. The Board has today unanimously
agreed that Vernon Sankey, who has held the position of Deputy Chairman since
his appointment to the Board four years ago, should take over as Chairman. He
has an excellent pedigree to assume the role, having a wealth of experience in
other PLCs.
The Company acknowledges the extraordinary contribution which Dan David has made
to the growth and success of PMI, having been involved in the PMI business since
1961 - the year before the Company's flotation on The Stock Exchange - and first
serving as a Director of PMI in 1968.
Paying tribute to Dan David, Vernon Sankey stated: 'Dan David has made a
remarkable impact on, and contribution to, PMI for many years. He remains highly
involved and interested in all aspects of the business, on which he has
considerable expertise. In view of this experience and expertise, the Board has
asked Dan to accept the position of Life President from 1 February 2005. He will
continue as a Non-Executive Director. This will give him the opportunity to
follow the evolution of the Group and also to help the Group to take the right
decisions.'
Notes for Editors:
Dan David joined PMI in 1961, was elected to the Board in 1968, and was
Executive Chairman from 1992 to 1998, when he became Non-Executive Chairman. He
is the founder of the internationally recognised Dan David Prize (see
www.dandavidprize.com).
Vernon Sankey was elected to the PMI Board in 2000 and until today was
Non-Executive Deputy Chairman, and he is currently senior independent
Non-Executive Director. He is currently a Director of Pearson Group plc, Zurich
Financial Services AG, Taylor Woodrow plc and several other companies. Formerly,
he was Chief Executive of Reckitt & Colman plc, Chairman of Thomson Travel plc
and Chairman of Gala Group Holdings plc.
