REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES FOR CANCELLATION

The Mercantile Investment Trust plc on Thursday 8^th December 2011 purchased 45,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at 892.14 pence per share.

Following the transaction the remaining shares in issue total 98,902,719.
