Purchase of Own Securities

The Company announces that on 25 August 2000, pursuant to
the passing of the resolution at the annual general
meeting of the Company held on 21 January 2000, it
purchased from the market 1,465,600 of its own ordinary
shares of 10p each at a price of 17.6925p per share.

Following the above purchase there are now 71,670,780
ordinary shares in issue.

The Company will consider additional repurchases of its
shares through the market.
