Purchase of Own Securities

The Company announces that on 18 December 2000, pursuant
to the passing of the resolution at the annual general
meeting of the Company held on 21 January 2000, it
purchased through Dresdner Kleinwort Benson 3,580,000 of
its own ordinary shares of 10p each at a price of
20.8425p per share.

Following the above purchase there are 68,090,780
ordinary shares in issue.

The Company will consider additional repurchases of its
shares through the market.
