Re-testing of historical holes at Lagoa Salgada reveals 93m of mineralization containing 2.85% copper equivalent1 and points to new geological structure
HIGHLIGHTS:
- TH Crestgate, 49% owned by M&FI, has completed a geological re-interpretation of 4 historic drill-holes at Lagoa Salgada
- These reveal long intersections of copper rich polymetallic mineralization
- Re-logging and re-assaying has resulted in identifying a new and different type of mineralization in addition to the previously identified lead-zinc rich VMS system, a large area of zinc-copper mineralization in an uncommon altered rock with a stock-work texture
- Recent IP studies show indications of chargeability anomalies, interpreted as sulphide disseminations, and well-defined resistivity boundaries coherent with larger areas comparing with the VMS type bodies, interpreted as stock-work zones;
- This work highlights the potential of a new high tonnage target about 1000m SW of the current resource hosted within in a VMS formation.
MAFL provides the following update on TH Crestgate GmbH, a private Swiss investment company in which MAFL holds a 49% stake. The directors of MAFL are advised that the work program has been completed on the Central Sector of the Lagoa Salgada project owned and controlled by TH Crestgate. Lagoa Salgada, located 100Km SE of Lisbon, Portugal, is accessible by highway and benefits from full and easy infrastructure access.
The 13,400-hectare Lagoa Salgada project currently has 17 identified gravimetric anomalies as well as a preliminary resource. The preliminary resource (see announcement August 27, 2015) is located on one of these gravimetric anomalies, called the LS-1 zone. The Central Sector is located approximately 1000 meters SW of the LS-1 zone. This 'Central Sector' was the subject of a 4 drill-hole program undertaken by a previous operator. The holes drilled are holes LS20, LS23, LS26 and LS28.
The results from this re-working of the four historic holes in the Central Sector yielded high-grade copper values. High-grade copper content is not strictly consistent with a Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide (VMS) formation, such as is typical of the Iberian Pyrite Belt where Lagoa Salgada is located. After a review of the Central Sector's historical exploration data, it was apparent that the sector's high-grade intervals are inconsistent with a massive sulphide structure.
The directors of MAFL are advised that the decision by TH Crestgate to re-work these historic holes was made to complete the data series, as a previous operator had only very selectively tested the core from these holes. The earlier assays appear to have been focused solely on intervals bearing visible mineralization. The re-work program consisted of re-logging, re-assaying, analysis and modelling of the remaining un-sampled intervals of core from these 4 drill-holes to allow for a complete analysis of the drill data. The core, which is stored at a Portuguese government facility, was processed under government supervision and a Director of TH Crestgate. The assays were tested by ALS Limited in Seville, Spain.
With the compilation of the old and recent data series anew and unexpected intervals were possible to define. The directors of TH Crestgate believe the most important aspect of these intervals is their geological basement. These high copper-zinc grades in long intervals are related with stock-works in altered zones inside of what seems to be sub-volcanic intrusions.
The geological team of TH Crestgate, led by Joao Barros, is considering a hypothesis that Lagoa Salgada's Central Sector may host a late intrusive or alteration event that clearly overprints the normal volcano-sedimentary system.

This lithotype has a very particular texture with porphyritic grains on a fine matrix without the usual lineation seen on the volcano-sedimentary package. Some intervals run in excess of 200m in core, with altered zones with copper-zinc dissemination on stock-works reaching significant widths (e.g. Hole LS20: >90m; Hole LS28: >60m).
Additionally, a significant breccia event composed by this lithology was described on the Southern-most holes (i.e. LS26 and LS28). This brecciation appears to have from 20m to 60m in core and could represent another potential source of mineralization. No sampling of these breccias has been completed. Additional sample checks have been completed on these bodies and they also have confirming mineralization (e.g. LS28_2 - 1.5m@1.01%Cu and 5.23% Zn).
The results of the earlier IP study have identified the existence of a number of anomalies of moderated high chargeability aligned with the known and the new identified mineralization. The results of the works appear to indicate the presence of anomalies due to the effect of metal sulphides such as "stock-work" or scattered in the VMS.
This new data in conjunction with the new interpretation resulting from the re-examination of the historic Central Sector drill holes has identified a large new prospective structure. A drilling campaign to test these new mineralized zones is being prepared.

Although they currently have insufficient data to definitively announce the presence of a copper bearing intrusion within the Central Sector's VMS system, nevertheless, the indications of significant propectivity now present in the Central Sector in addition to the significant resource potential of Lagoa Salgada's known Iberian Pyrite Belt VMS system gives us cause for optimism. TH Crestgate is now evaluating the most efficient sequence of steps required to test and confirm this possible new structural discovery. The copper-zinc intervals currently compiled on these geological late events on Central Sector demonstrate that we are in the presence of a big and complex system. TH Crestgate is very excited and committed to develop, understand and test this new type of mineralization together with the other unexplored VMS potential structures on the property."

Asset Description
MAFL is advised that the Lagoa Salgada resource is focused on one gravimetric anomaly called LS-1. There are a total of 17 gravimetric anomalies on the property that remain to be fully tested. The petrographic study focused on the LS-1 area of the Lagoa Salgada property. The orebody is composed of a central stock work zone - a more than 700 m thick volcano-sedimentary complex - and a massive sulphide lens in the northwest. It is covered by more than one hundred meters of sediments of the Sado Tertiary basin (Lima et al., 2013, see below).

TH Crestgate's 100% owned subsidiary, Redcorp Empredeementos Lda, who is the operator of the Lagoa Salgada asset, recently commissioned and completed a study of the historical drill-holes on the Central Sector on the Lead Zinc Project. The Lagoa Salgada Project is located in the northern portion of Portuguese section of Iberian Pyrite Belt. The Iberian Pyrite Belt is a known and prolific host of Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide (VMS) deposits. VMS deposits are important sources of copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver (Cu, Zn, Pb, Au, and Ag). These deposits form at or near the sea-floor where circulating hydrothermal fluids driven by magmatic heat are quenched through mixing with bottom waters or pore waters in near-sea floor lithologies. Massive sulphide lenses vary widely in shape and size and may be pod like or sheet-like. They are generally stratiform and may occur as multiple lenses. These mineralised lenses can be identified as gravimetric anomalies. The Lagoa Salgada has project 17 gravimetric anomalies, of which the LS-1 preliminary resource represents but one of the anomalies.
Volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits range in size from small pods of less than a ton (which are commonly scattered through prospective terrains) to supergiant accumulations like Rio Tinto (Spain), 1.5 B/t (billion metric tons), which is located on the Iberian Pyrite Belt; Kholodrina (Russia), 300 Mt (million metric tons); Windy Craggy (Canada), 300 Mt; Brunswick No. 12 (Canada), 230 Mt; and Ducktown (United States), 163 Mt. Massive ore in VMS deposits consists of >40 percent sulphides, usually pyrite, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, and galena; non-sulphidede gangue typically consists of quartz, barite, anhydrite, iron (Fe) oxides, chlorite, sericite, talc, and their metamorphosed equivalents. Ore composition may be Pb-Zn-, Cu-Zn-, or Pb-Cu-Zn-dominated, and some deposits are zoned vertically and laterally.
